The public is jaded when it comes to interior design. The media portrays the decorator side of interior design, because pretty picture and paint hues are entertaining. Renderings, furniture orientation, and color selections are aspects of interior design however, what the media does not show are the entire design process. Producers, writer and directors of these series want to make an entertaining program and want ratings. For example, when “Real World” producers view applicants video submittals there are psychiatrists who will inform them which applicants will cause conflict within the house. As for the mainstream series even the shows that hire professionals in the industry they still get thing misconstrue. My mother, a nurse, complained at the television for forty-five minutes about all of the mistake that the Doctor in”House” was making. So it is not just the design field that has these problems, it is important to remember that it is the media’s job to entertain.

Globalization
As we progress towards the future technology has become even more expansive and necessary in numerous jobs. For interior design many aspects have been improved with the ability to connect with each other worldwide. Being able to have contacts and clients halfway around the world, and to be able to converse with distributers and manufactures in real time as opposed to via e-mail has become indispensable to our community. I do not know if I am in favor of designing a space that I have never been in or basing a design on the general characteristics of a population. I agree that you can obtain enough information to achieve a virtual experience that would mimic the space; however I feel that the only way to achieve the experience of the environment is through firsthand knowledge. I feel that visiting the site and experiencing s and interacting with the space is what enhances design. Human experience the world with all of their senses not just their eyes. The intangible aspects of a space are what give it its individuality.

education
Every time I time I set forth an education or career I get distracted by something shinny or my train gets derailed, therefore I try not to make too many plans. Strategically I would like to finish up my degree within the next ten months. During that time I would like to transfer from my store position to the corporate office in the design section. Once I finish up my bachelors, I would like to continue my education and obtain my master’s degree. Since my employer supports their employees in furthering their education, then I hopefully they will offer tuition reimbursement to assist with the costs. I feel this will present more opportunities to me in the future, especially in the current recession with masses of people continuing their education. I am hoping that while I am furthering my education, that I will have time to sit for the NCIDQ. If not then I will postpone it till I have finished. I’m not positive that I would continue on to obtain my doctorate. With as long as it has taken me to complete my current degree, I ‘m not sure that I could commit to that decision this early in my life. I am defiantly not opposed to furthering my education, and I never want to close the door on learning new things. In fact, I really enjoy gaining additional knowledge and understanding.

I define interior design as the creative solution and organization of space and objects that is in harmony with the humanistic need, the surrounding environment, and with nature.
I’m not as tuned into the interior design community as I should so my opinion may have little impact. The professional aspect of interior design and architecture should be monitored. The US has chosen to monitor parts of these fields through licensing. I do feel that there should be more distinctions between licensed and unlicensed designers. I am not saying that they should not be able to practice, however they should have more restrictions in residency aspects of the practice. The criteria for licensing are to aid in regulating the industry and keeping the public safe.
