Every time I time I set forth an education or career I get distracted by something shinny or my train gets derailed, therefore I try not to make too many plans. Strategically I would like to finish up my degree within the next ten months. During that time I would like to transfer from my store position to the corporate office in the design section. Once I finish up my bachelors, I would like to continue my education and obtain my master’s degree. Since my employer supports their employees in furthering their education, then I hopefully they will offer tuition reimbursement to assist with the costs. I feel this will present more opportunities to me in the future, especially in the current recession with masses of people continuing their education. I am hoping that while I am furthering my education, that I will have time to sit for the NCIDQ. If not then I will postpone it till I have finished. I’m not positive that I would continue on to obtain my doctorate. With as long as it has taken me to complete my current degree, I ‘m not sure that I could commit to that decision this early in my life. I am defiantly not opposed to furthering my education, and I never want to close the door on learning new things. In fact, I really enjoy gaining additional knowledge and understanding.
I think it is great that you aren't going to say that you will be done with your education at a certain time. Often times, I find myself counting down the days until I graduate. We are so young and we have so much to learn. We are infants in the design world. Our options are never ending and our future really is in our hands. We need to make the most of it.
ReplyDeleteMiss Short,
ReplyDeleteFirst I have to stay I am glad that you know yourself while enough to know when you have to take things slow and how to keep yourself on track. I, too, get very distracted very fast and it is not easy, especially with all the information we learn. Good for you I am also very excited about the fact that you would like to be a part of the design team with the company you are currently with. With the knowledge that you have I am sure you will do great things because you are one to “think outside the box”. I am glad you are not worried about getting everything done right away you are still young and have lots of time. I like how you said “I never want to close the door on learning new things” and I completely understand because I plan on obtaining as much knowledge as possible.

Wow. I have such a respect for your goal and personal timeline. It's good to recognize a commitment factor to some of the future paths, I'm struggling with the same problem.
ReplyDeleteWorking within your current employer seems like a good game plan. Would you ever want to branch out and do somehting completely different? Personally I love taking chances and jumping feet first into things.
ReplyDeleteI can also agree with your opinions on furthering your education and how long it would take. That's something I'm currently debating in my head as well.
Shinny? I am not sure I have ever heard that word! But I know what you mean....
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone's plans always go exactly how they planned, but it is a good idea to know what general direction you want to be moving in life. If you think about what you really want to do with your degree...will it require a Masters? or continued education?
If so...then that's where you should set your goals and not let anything deture you from your dreams.
